Investment Research
The Research Associate will have 1 to 2 years of relevant experience with demonstrated quantitative, technical and research skills. (S)he will work with a team of researchers to participate in their research endeavors and development of new and existing investment products. Support is also provided for Client Service, Marketing and Sales activities through the provision of analysis, reports, and exhibits.
In this role, the incumbent will:
- Write and maintain code that supports other research projects and ongoing research functions.
- Gather, verify, perform quality assurance upon, manipulate, summarize and present data.
- Run historical product simulations, recommend constraints that will enhance account guidelines and constraints to achieve optimal investment performance, and interpret and present performance results of simulations and live portfolios.
- Perform various support tasks such as library work and spreadsheet work.
- Some individual research projects will be undertaken initially and increase over time.
- A fundamental knowledge of financial concepts and instruments (e.g., Credit instruments, CDS, CDO, commodities, volatility, options, stochastics, optimization, Bayesian, etc.) is required.
- Bachelor or advance degree is preferred with extensive coursework in math, finance, probability, statistics, mathematical finance and/or economics.
- Working knowledge of SAS, Python, R, Matlab, C/C++, or PERL is required, but may be learned on the job. Ability to write, organize and maintain mid-size bodies of code is necessary. It is required that code is well documented, well commented, and well organized.
- Ability to acquire and digest technical information related to basic financial concepts and theories as well as information related to financial instruments on one’s own without the help of others.
- Strong reasoning and analytical capabilities are required. Must be able to grasp logic inherent in key financial theories, to construct logical arguments related to both empirical questions and the interpretation of empirical results, and to engage in mathematical reasoning in the form of a mathematical proof.

EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT
Marketing
Provide marketing and administrative support for marketing and client service personnel. Must be an individual able to manage multiple tasks effectively, capable of working autonomously and have exceptional organization interpersonal skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to professionally handle confidential information are critical. The successful candidate will thrive in an innovative and dynamic and entrepreneurial organization.
In this role, the incumbent will:
- Compose and type routine correspondence.
- Maintain electronic files of correspondence, call notes, and other confidential records.
- Answer telephone and gives information to callers or routes call to appropriate official and places outgoing calls.
- Schedule appointments for marketing team members.
- Prepare coordinated sales & research travel itineraries.
- Prepare and sends mass mailings both electronically, via overnight mail, and express mail.
- Assist in preparing marketing materials, cover pages, binding, etc.
- Coordinate marketing meetings and functions. (Some travel may be required.)
- Bachelor's degree is preferred plus three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

SOFTWARE DEVELOPER
Investment Technology
This position is part of our Programming team which develops and maintains First Quadrant’s in-house business applications. Although we use Java extensively in our code base and many of our projects are in Python, we are flexible and use whatever technology best meets our needs. Our business applications pertain to such areas as Trading, Portfolio Accounting, Marketing, and provide excellent exposure to finance.
In this role, the incumbent will:
- Design, modify, develop, write, test, implement and integrate software programming applications and solutions.
- Support and/or install software applications.
- Consult with users to define requirements, identify current operating procedures and clarify program objectives.
- Write documentation to describe program development, logic, coding and corrections.
- Rely on experience, judgment and senior developer guidance to plan and accomplish goals.
- Write clean, well commented, reusable code and be comfortable owning the code throughout its life cycle (i.e., user requirements, development, testing and implementation).
- Develop software for and deploying software to a Unix environment.
- BS in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent work experience is preferred.
- Strong software design and engineering skills.
- Solid understanding of algorithms and data structures.
- Proficient with Java, Python, or related languages – e.g., EJB3, Ruby, C++, C#, Haskell.

SENIOR LINUX/UNIX ADMINISTRATOR
Information Technology
The Linux/UNIX Administrator will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, support and security of Linux (RedHat/Fedora/CentOS or similar OS) systems and UNIX (Sun Solaris)
In this role, the incumbent will:
- Responsible for Solaris 10 and Linux Red Hat/Fedora/CentOS administration, including OS software installation and configuration and fundamentals of system security.
- Leads complex projects.
- Works closely with developers and programmers to maintain a working environment for software development and deployment to a UNIX environment.
- At least five years of hands-on systems and network administration experience in the UNIX/LINUX acquired in a corporate or university setting.
- Experience with Relational Databases (MySQL, Sybase).
- Must have installed new releases of operating systems and utility software, independently resolved systems problems of moderate to severe complexity, and dealt effectively with vendor support staff.
- Must have worked with key Internet technologies and protocols including TCP/IP, HTTP and FTP.
- Knowledge of primary area of responsibility should be adequate to attain advanced professional certifications such as those offered by CISCO, Sun and Microsoft.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related field from a four-year college or university is preferred.
- Knowledge of NetApp and enterprise backup solutions is preferred.

PORTFOLIO ENGINEER
Portfolio Engineering Group
First Quadrant’s Portfolio Engineering Group is looking for a Portfolio Engineer to support the current investment management infrastructure. This position will require the candidate to work closely with our investment technology team to improve and increase efficiency within the Trading Operations department. The team works closely with other areas of the firm including research, trading, risk, accounting and compliance. Additionally, as a Portfolio Engineer you will be trained in the portfolio construction and implementation of the firm’s derivative and equity products.
In this role, the incumbent will:
- Design and develop automation processes of the current infrastructure to improve efficiency and risk control.
- Special projects assigned by management.
- Global derivatives and equities portfolio construction, rebalancing and trade list generation.
- Manage cash/collateral/shares class allocation for funds and separately managed accounts.
- Monitor portfolio exposures and risk budgeting to assure that investment and risk guidelines are in compliance.
- Oversee client contributions and redemptions.
- Administer corporate actions, index changes, securities lending and resolve trade discrepancies.
- Support management and client-facing groups in research and ad-hoc requests.
- Assist in managing, trading and monitoring investment portfolios as deemed necessary.
- Apply market knowledge and insight. Stay on top of relevant market and industry news. Interact closely with traders, portfolio managers, strategists and investment technology professionals.
- BA/BS in computer science, mathematics, economics or finance backgrounds is preferred.
